Dallas Cowboys tight end Nelson Agholor is entering the final year of his contract.
Agholor’s agent, Jason Katz, confirmed the contract extension Monday, and the Cowboys announced they signed him to a three-year, $26 million contract extension.
A total of $8 million in guarantees were included.
Agholors deal includes $12.5 million guaranteed in 2018, $11.5 mil in 2019 and $13 mil in 2020.
A quick look at his previous deals shows a lot of money on the table.
He was signed to a two-year deal worth $9 million in 2016, $8.75 million in 2017 and $8 mil in 2018.
That was a significant amount of money for a wide receiver.
But in 2018 and 2019, Aghoors deal included $3.9 million guaranteed, $4.75 mil in 2021 and $4 mil in 2022.
A few years later, he was a free agent.
This year, he has a $10.8 million cap number.
The Cowboys were able to add some cap space with the signing of wide receiver Dez Bryant, but Agholt’s signing adds some more flexibility for the future.
In his contract, Katz says Aghors signing “will help the Cowboys build a strong supporting cast.”
He added, “This signing allows us to continue to build a team and continue to compete at the highest level.
We are excited to have Nelson in our family and we look forward to a successful career with him and the Dallas Cowboys.”
