Pittsburgh, PA — It’s a place where athletes, coaches and fans gather to celebrate the best in sports, and in doing so, the best of the best get to be together.
And it’s a city where it’s possible to see people who don’t typically come to a sporting event.
The sport-festival experience is nothing new in Pittsburgh.
But it’s gotten a whole lot better since the Penguins returned to action in 2016.
As Pittsburgh hosted the 2017 NHL All-Star Game in 2016, it became the second city to host the event after the Penguins played their final game in Pittsburgh on Feb. 26, 2020.
With Pittsburgh hosting the 2019 NHL All Star Game, the city became the third major city in the country to host a hockey game.
But while some have called Pittsburgh the “Home of the NHL” — a moniker first bestowed on the city in 2015 when it hosted the 2015 NHL All Stars Game in its new arena — the city’s status as a hockey city has not changed.
And that’s where Pittsburgh’s video production department comes in.
The department, which was created in 2015 to produce video for professional sports events, was founded in 2015 by two Pittsburgh Steelers’ players, Ben Roethlisberger and Ike Taylor.
Since then, it has grown to have nearly a dozen employees.
Its mission is to help sports fans and fans of other sports, including those in the Pittsburgh region, have a great experience during the NHL AllStar Game.
In a city with a history of hosting events, like the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the video production staff is always looking to bring something new to the table.
The city also has the distinction of hosting several NFL and NBA events annually, including the NFL All-Pro Bowl in 2017.
“We try to find some great stuff, and there are a lot of great events in Pittsburgh,” said John Stavola, video production director for Pittsburgh.
“We are constantly looking for new opportunities to make sure we are providing a great entertainment experience.”
The video production team has made sure to make Pittsburgh one of the most unique and engaging locations in the world to capture the best from every moment.
“You never know what you are going to get from a video production company,” said Stavolan.
“I’ve done a lot with the Pittsburgh video production and the city, but this is a unique opportunity for me.
I am so excited.”
A city of athletes and fansAs Pittsburgh is home to several sports, the department has found ways to bring that talent and passion to the Pittsburgh community.
Stavolas’ department has been involved in helping the Penguins in their efforts to host events throughout the city.
Stavola said the Pittsburgh Penguins are always looking for ways to do more.
“When we are able to do a promotion for a game, it’s always great,” he said.
“If we can get the city of Pittsburgh to participate in something, it makes it a lot more fun for us.”
For Stavolas work, he said he has been working with the city to get events like the 2018 NHL All Hallows Eve Parade and the 2018 Pittsburgh Penguins Memorial Cup presented by Bud Light.
Stapola said it’s not just the Penguins who have been involved with the efforts.
“The Penguins are a great organization,” he added.
“They are a fun, fun group of people, so when we get a chance to come out and do something, we like to do it.”
For the past three years, Stavolina said he and his team have been making sure the city is on top of its game.
“It’s always been a great feeling to have a group of individuals come out there and work on something,” he explained.
“To be able to come back and have a day of fun with the team, it is amazing.”
